GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
Under the direction of the Manager of Youth Career Development Services (YCDS), the Facilitator implements curriculum in the areas of career and post-secondary preparation as a classroom instructor and provides opportunities and resources to students to develop career readiness skills. This role serves as a champion and model of Goodwill Industries of Denver’s values – “FACE IT” which incorporates fun, accountability, collaboration, empowerment, innovation, and transparency in all that we do. This position performs the following duties personally:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Uses best practices to design and deliver YCDS curriculum; differentiates instruction to teach broad range of student skills-levels, abilities, experiences and language aptitudes. Generates syllabi for current roster of assigned classes in accordance to school administration standards and with guidance from Manager and Curriculum Specialist. Prepares learning targets and outlines for courses following Goodwill curriculum guidelines and/or program requirements.
- Works in conjunction with the DPS CTE Work-Based Learning Coordinator to plan for the launch of a district-wide internship program in the summer of 2016. This may involve participation in work group sessions related to internship curriculum development and process mapping. It may also involve participating in recruitment of internship company hosts in coordination with the DPS CTE team.
- Transitions to summer programming, focusing on the execution of the district-wide work-based learning program at the assigned school. Serves as teacher-of-record for internship preparation classes—offered both during the summer and the school year, utilizing the DPS CTE internship curriculum. Assists with the identification and recruitment of companies to host internships for students at the Facilitator’s assigned school in close coordination with the DPS CTE team. Maintains compliance with all DPS Internship Program policies and procedures set forth by the DPS CTE Work-Based Learning Coordinator.
- Responsible for the case management and support of students placed in internships. Meets with internship supervisor and student on a regular basis to monitor progress and discuss any concerns. When concerns arise, provides counsel to student and/or supervisor; facilitates development of action plan for performance issues when warranted; monitors the situation to make sure both supervisor and student expectations are met. Manages paperwork associated with the internships such as contracts, training plan, evaluations and timesheets. Is available on an on-call basis to support internship supervisors when an urgent need arises. If non-traditional work hours are needed to support internship supervisors then Facilitator’s work schedule will be adjusted accordingly. Reports work comp claims to specific contact in DPS to be acted upon. Assists supervisor with terminations; facilitates removal of student from work site when site is deemed unsafe or inappropriate for a student intern.
- Participates in a College and Career Readiness team that actively promotes college and career opportunities within CTE Pathways, including career fairs, college admissions events, summer programs, affinity group meetings, parent meetings, etc.
- Serves as key component of the school-based CTE Team, and participates in all activities of that team as required by the school director of CTE pathways. This will include drivers’ training for small activities buses, to ensure student mobility for work-based learning activities, events, supporting planning, execution, and logistics for DPS job shadowing and mentoring activities.
- CTE Facilitator Maintains knowledge of principles, best practices and objectives as related to the youth population served by GID, including students from low-income communities, homeless students, refugee students, English language learners, students with individual education plans, over-age students, and under-credit students.
- Maintains knowledge of principles, practices and objectives as related to post-secondary education options, including non-traditional and multiple pathways, case management, public assistance and support, as well as program evaluation and outcome measures in relation to the delivery of YCDS programs.
- Encourages youth participation in GID support programs, including but not limited to, mentoring, Student Advisory Council, and summer programming.
- Acts as a support for students in response to student crises and refers student to available internal and/or external resources to address needs.
- Monitors student progress and meets with students to assist with academic and personal development, and involves appropriate school staff and parent/guardian when needed; outreach to parents when needed to best support student.
- Connects youth to resources in the areas of career and workforce readiness, mentoring (when appropriate to supplement DPS programs), tutoring, scholarship search, post-secondary preparation, leadership training, and other areas to support success in school and/or the workforce.
- Collects and maintains accurate and timely reports of student information and data, monitors quality of data for evaluation needs and progress reports to allow for the growth, success and sustainability of YCDS Program. Collects, inputs, and reports on school and district data needs related to CTE activities in DPS.
- Utilizes data provided by the PME department with manager oversight to monitor progress towards individual, team and/or department goals and enhance learning organization culture.
- Helps facilitate surveys of counselors, teachers, administrators and students. Delivers pre- and post- program tests to students as part of CTE district-wide internship program. Works with DPS CTE team to evaluate results to provide data for program outcomes and satisfaction of program.
- Participates in collecting and/or providing additional data, maintaining participant files, administering and/or completing different surveys, or completing monthly timesheets, related to particular programs or funding sources.
- Coordinates and delivers summer-based programming to ensure continuity of mission objectives throughout the year.
- Actively generates referrals to Goodwill and partner programs and recruits volunteers, mentors, and interns from the community; accurate reporting of volunteers into Salesforce.
- Promotes internal and external programs applicable to the student population, faculty, administration, and within the local community using various creative mediums to reach intended audience. Recruits students to participate in the entire suite of work-based learning opportunities offered in DPS.
- Serves as a resource and support for other Goodwill staff; openly shares new ideas with team.
- Attends All-Staff, School CTE Team, 1-on-1 Meetings with school director of pathways, and GID staff, CTE Industry Summits, and other meetings or Professional Development opportunities as directed by Manager; Communicates with Lead Facilitator ongoing as directed by Manager.
- Works with manager to maintain expenses at or below budget.
- Acts as positive ambassador for GID and DPS in schools and community.
- Performs any other duties as required or assigned.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s (B.A.) degree mandatory in related discipline and minimum of 1 year experience associated with the delivery of human services to a youth population; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
RESPONSIBILITY FOR FUNDS, PROPERTY and EQUIPMENT
Employee is responsible for any technology or Goodwill property used in the normal course of employment will be under the safekeeping and the responsibility of the employee to maintain in good working order.
Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the school community. Ability to write speeches and program promotional materials for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to act as a spokesperson for Goodwill programs at various school and community events.
Ability to work with mathematical concepts applicable to job responsibilities.
CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of MS Word word processing software, MS Excel spreadsheet software and MS Outlook contact management systems. Employee should have an understanding of CiviCore and case management software. Understanding of Infinite Campus and Naviance is preferred.
Employee must be able to utilize audio/visual equipment and various forms of technology resources to facilitate curriculum in the classroom environment.
CERTIFICATIONS and LICENSES
Current Colorado substitute teacher authorization is required. A Secondary Education credential issued from the Colorado Department of Education is preferred. Employee must have a clear Colorado driver’s license to drive on Goodwill business. Must pass a criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen, E-Verify and verification of education.

Employee will spend a majority of time working in a school and/or classroom environment. However, employee will travel to corporate headquarters and Goodwill event locations where environmental conditions may vary.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Travel between offices is approximately 15%.
